Community Cinema

Mental health discussions need intersectionality.

The Community Cinema screening of “Bedlam” was really eye-opening. I haven’t seen a documentary like this before.

There was a multitude of questions that sprung into my mind while watching: “Did they get consent to film people in mental health episodes like this?” “Do those shown get compensation for partaking in the documentary?” “Who are we to be able to watch people at some of their lowest points like this?” The last one was lingering through the whole screening and honestly after as well.

I felt voyeuristic, much like I did while watching the films about Sarah Bartman and Damiana/Kryggi. “Bedlam” was an unsettling film.
